Introduction
My name is Valeria, and this is my final report for the WP credits program. For the past 11 weeks, I contributed to the community by working at the «Beautiful Patterns» Camp, leading an introductory workshop on WordPress.com for teenage girls. This report summarizes what I did, how I did it, what I learned, and how the experience shaped me as a contributor.
Teams and projects I participated in
For my collaboration in the community, I work together with the directors of the Computer Systems Engineering program at Fidélitas University and other schools, in the implementation of WordPress.com for the creation of their first website.
My job was to serve as an instructor for the girls from different schools throughout the workshop. My main role was to help the girls create their accounts, validate their coupons, choose a template, create a post, and add components such as a title, heading, introduction, and an authorized image. I also added a «Camp!» category and tags like «Teamwork,» «Creativity,» etc. In addition, I helped them with any questions they had during the workshop.
Learning resources
For the workshop, we used presentations previously prepared by the directors, in order to maintain order on how we were going to develop, the instructions, the part about validating the coupon (which was a coupon with a duration of one year so that they could work on their sites freely and with the topics they wanted) in addition to that, we used the laboratories of the STEM building of the Fidélitas University, in total there were 40 girls, divided into two groups, one in the morning and another in the afternoon, for a total of 3 hours in three days of duration of the workshop.
Challenges and solutions
My biggest challenge was learning about WordPress and Gutenberg in a short amount of time so I could conduct the workshop and answer all the girls’ questions. A few days before, I managed to start my personal project, and by the day of the workshop, I had a better understanding of the topic and was able to easily lead the workshop and successfully answer all the girls’ questions.

Key lessons from the WP credit program
Throughout my time participating in WordPress, I’ve learned that there’s a large community where we can develop our ideas through websites and also collaborate voluntarily in multiple areas that improve the application and services for others.
New skills acquired
During this time I learned new skills, mainly creating websites like WordPress and implementing the Gutenberg editor and how these two work together. Additionally, while working with the girls, we developed listening skills to address their questions and comprehension skills to support them with the technological needs some of them presented.
Personal reflections and next steps
I was surprised by how welcoming the WordPress community is to beginners. All my questions were answered patiently and encouragingly. After WP Credits, I plan to continue contributing to the documentation team and, eventually, take on the role of reviewer. I would also love to mentor a future WP Credits student.
